Virgo rules the nervous system as well as the intestines, which assimilate food into the body. The Virgo-born individual can literally worry themselves sick when things go wrong. They possess a fussy digestive system and can suffer from indigestion, gas pains, ulcers, liver upsets, colitis and bowel problems. Some Virgos worry so much about their health that they tend to be hypochondriacs.

ASTROLOGY-HEALTH-VIRGOVirgo’s ruling planet, Mercury, has command over the brain and nervous system, so it also controls the links between the mind and the functions of the body. Earth signs have strong sense impressions and thrive on contact with the earth. They have strength and endurance, which makes them more resistant to transient colds and flu than fire or air signs.

Virgos love chocolate, but chocolate does not love them as it causes upsets of the skin and digestive system. Drugs are not tolerated well by Virgo-natives and should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision. Homoeopathic remedies can be used in the treatment of nausea, indigestion, hangover headaches or insomnia.

A proper diet is essential to good health and to keep up energy levels. Food should not be too highly seasoned, spicy, laden with sauces or fried. Meat, potatoes, unrefined grains, root vegetables and dairy are all good for the Virgo diet and well-being.

Virgos have a slow metabolism and this can lead to heaviness, sluggishness and a tendency to inertia. Food should be chewed thoroughly and eaten at regular intervals, and cold drinks should be avoided at meal times.

Raw foods should be limited and vegetables lightly steamed for better assimilation in the body. Green vegetables—such as spinach, lettuce and green beans—as well as brown rice, millet and lentils will help to stabilise the blood sugar. As Virgo tends to suffer from potassium deficiency, foods like celery, tomatoes, apples and bananas are beneficial.

Bach flower essences such as beech will help with intolerance, criticism, passing judgement and demands. Pine will also help overcome self-blame, over-conscientiousness, being critical of others, exhaustion and being over-apologetic.

The sixth sign of the zodiac, Virgo, also governs health and illness. For this reason, a Virgo-born individual likes to feel upbeat and invest care in their overall health and wellbeing.

Virgos are sensitive individuals due to their finely tuned nervous system. You are far more aware of and receptive to your environment than others, which is why you are vulnerable to harmful influences from those you live, play and work with. You may also need to curb thoughts that could possibly undermine you. Overexertion is something else you need to watch out for. In your quest for perfection, try not to overdo things and live on your nerves. If you de-clutter your mind, modulate your workload and get adequate sleep, you’ll see your health improve.

Your digestive system is ruled by Virgo. What you eat and, more importantly, how you eat, is essential for keeping uneasiness and sickness at bay. I often find that Virgos, hypersensitive as they are, display allergic reactions to food. To avoid this, consume meals in a stress-free, undisturbed environment, and pay attention to your body’s signals. It won’t take long to discover what agrees with your system and what doesn’t.

In terms of diet, supplement natural, wholesome foods with herbs like skullcap, chamomile, vervain and valerian root. These will help boost your nerves, robustness and balance. Ensure that Vitamins B, C and E, and wholegrains such as rye, wheat and barley, form a significant part of your diet. According to an ancient astrologist, the colour of your ruling planet, Mercury, is green, so green vegetables should also be included.
