Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese zodiac and the animals associated with the Chinese astrological model are very different to the western style month by month Zodiac principles. In Chinese astrology there is a 12 year cycle which more than likely relates to the 12 year cycle of Jupiter and each of those 12 years is assigned an animal to which the personality is intimately linked. As well, according to the Chinese zodiac each of these animals relates to the others to a better or lesser degree.

The History of Chinese Zodiacs

Chinese astrology dates back thousands of years and is becoming more and more popular. It is also linked to the concept of feng shui and improving your circumstances to the correct construction of living space, placement of different objects and furniture and the counteractive procedures for changing luck. Of course the animals will have reference to the culture of China over the centuries but it appears that the interpretations have relevance for people born in other parts of the world as well.

The Chinese zodiac is based upon the Chinese calendar as well so that the New Year doesn’t actually fall on January 1 as it does in western countries. Each of the Chinese Zodiac animals has a specific quality which is related to the personality of those born in each year. Of course if we apply a bit of common sense we easily come to the conclusion that not everyone born in say the year of the ox in 1973 is going to have identical personality traits and justice in Western astrology having the time and place of birth is essential for distinguishing people born in that month, naturally this criteria will have a marked influence on all of those born in the year of the ox by bringing out the subtle nuances of character as a result.

Terrorist attack on France: An astrological assessment

Here’s the Terrorist attack on France: An astrological assessment….

On Friday the 13th at approximately 9:16 PM in Paris France ISIS conducted simultaneous attacks on civilians in Paris in response to what it believes is the French involvement in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East conflicts generally.

Since September 2014 France has been involved in airstrikes in both Iraq and more recently in Syria. This retaliatory response however was barbaric and has naturally raised the terrorist alert in Western countries to an extreme level. Everyone with a sense of decency is outraged by these inhumane acts.

The astrological horoscope of France is in question as there are several independence charts however the one will use now to assess the planetary and astrological influences at the time of the attack is that of the 5th French Republic of October 5, 1958.

At the time of the attack the ascendant or rising sign using Western tropical astrology was within 1° of the national horoscope for the above date of 1958 which therefore from an astrological point of view is considered “radical” or fit to be used as a chart for the event in question.

The Myth of Security

We all want certitude. We cherish security – that trust and knowledge that the future will be vouchsafed with financial, material and emotional well-being. But if you really think about it, security is a myth and deep within our hearts we know exactly what the fate of each and every single human being on this planet is. In the end, and that can be at any given moment, the ends can come. The next of your heart can simply stop. The consciousness you assumed was your body evaporates like a dew drop on a sunny summer morning.

This search for security or rather the insecurity about security, is a contradiction by virtue of the way people approach it. They visit astrologers like me while professing their absolute faith in the notion of free will and at the same time asking the astrologer to look at this blueprint of their lives which at birth are the planetary signatures emblazoned as their future by hard coding in their DNA. So what will it be? Do you have free will or not? If you have free will what’s the necessity of visiting an astrologer? And I see this on many occasions having asked clients why they happen to be coming to see me? Don’t you have faith in yourself and your ability to change the course of events in your life? If so you can easily map out what is to be without the help of an astrologer, right?

On this point, even in secular life, leaving aside the so-called mumbo-jumbo of astrology and psychic or metaphysical advice, we all go to doctors, have our blood tests done to predict whether or not in the next six months we’ll be here or not. If our PSA is up than there is a real danger that we have prostate cancer or happen to find that our cholesterol is through the roof, triglycerides are going crazy, whatever, these signals indicate disease and in some cases the likelihood that we won’t be here shortly so this deeply cherished notion of security is at once seen for what is – a flimsy house of cards which could collapse at any given moment from things completely outside our control.

Does astrology really benefit the individual? There are two extreme views and somehow I think the truth is somewhere between. On the one hand there are the faithful who believe that the horoscope is fixed and incapable of changing and on the other, those humanistic are psychological astrologers who take the view that one can work with one’s own bag of limitations and somehow construct something better out of this, thereby influencing the future with desirable outcomes. It’s also a middle view which roughly says that one’s destiny is fated but awareness is free and capable of perceiving whatever event arises in life as good or bad. Believing this notion has its limitations. If we are indeed hardcoded as the previous believers would have you think, we have to assume that consciousness, thinking and reasoning processes which are astrologically regulated by the third, fifth and ninth houses of the horoscope, and that what and how you think and also what you determine to be correct or otherwise is also for the most part embedded and intractable. And herein is the dilemma of astrology.

Suffice to say that on several occasions I have had uncanny experiences in India where ancient karmic records thousands of years old the detail one’s life, including the birth date, one’s own name, and family names, dates and events from birth to death recorded and all from one’s thumbprint, not from any information provided. I’ve mentioned this account on many occasions to those who are hard-core believers in free will. The fact that from your thumbprint a record can be retrieved from an ancient archive detailing all of these things written thousands of years ago is enough to at least cast some shadow of doubt on this idea of free will. But then, are we left as puppets dangling in the air by some unknown force, a divine puppeteer (and that’s with a capital P and presumably a synonym for Almighty God ).

And speaking about God, (and it’s very hard not to when we are deeply embedded in discussions about free will and fate) He must necessarily be part of that equation. But even in religious terms there is ample confusion regarding this concept and one only has to read the Lord’s prayer wherein it is said “… Thy Will be done on heaven on earth as it is in heaven..”. In other words even religious believers if they trace their doctrine back to the core of what is said by someone like Jesus have to admit that this particular prayer completely eradicates the notion of one’s own free will by relegating this to some divine Will which reasonably speaking does seem to be the case if you look at the initial intent of God creating this whole creation including us. It becomes expedient to dismiss the evils that occur in the world to God’s will and the things that happen to us through our own so-called efforts as our own personal will. Unfortunately, this is what perpetuates this ongoing dilemma of fate versus free will.

Motivation, the “M” word is so much more than you may think….

The “M” word, motivation, is as elusive as falling in love is to those that seek it most, because when you look you cannot see however when you are aware you begin to notice everything and not just what you’re looking for.

It’s a little deep however when you are looking for something you tend to sort through things by discarding what is unsuitable. However when you look for nothing and instead browse through everything, you miss nothing, and this is how you find what you need instead of what you’re looking for.

This is why motivation is so elusive, because it’s nothing more than a reason that is so overwhelming, that it replaces any fear that might have held you paralysed from action, with an insatiable, relentless and untiring desire to succeed.

Lacking motivation in anything is because you are consumed with fear. Therefore, if you cannot find motivation then my advice is to stop looking for it, instead browse through life and every circumstance, because it’s as you browse through these circumstances that opportunities become your reasons. The same can be said with falling in love, looking for it means you must have a checklist, however when you find it you quickly realise that there is no checklist long enough that can tick all the boxes that finding true love contains.

Motivation is just a reason, a strong enough reason that results in a change in attitude that is so positive it instantly eliminates negativity. Any fear that may have held you paralysed from acting is replaced with a sense of certainty, that instils action in a domino like effect with such an intensity that can only be satisfied with the materialisation of the result you desire. Motivation is what causes this to happen by accident, and all it took was a reason.

Contrary to popular belief grass will always need mowing, hair will always need cutting, dishes will always need doing, and work must be done. Likewise, motivation exists purely because it is constantly and repeatedly nourished and fed what it needs to thrive. Stop feeding it and your motivation will begin to suffocate, but give it a breath of fresh air and it will immediately respond and grow once again.

The take home message is simple, motivation needs maintenance as does everything, and I mean every single thing in your life. If you want to be driven by the positive feeling of motivation, rather than the avoidance of the discomfort of pain, hardship, suffering, torment, affliction, and agony, then maintain your motivation.

Motivation is maintained by only doing what you love and loving what you do whilst driven by a feeling that you love. Repeatedly looking for the real reason or motive to act, move, and do as required will make you accomplish absolutely everything and anything you put your mind to.

So be prepared to preserve and conserve, be prepared to continue the upkeep and service, and finally be prepared to nurture and feed your motivation with the feelings of emotions that you love. Only this will allow your motivation to repeat itself through every adjoining moment in your day. It will give you the impression that you are motivated when in actual fact you are simply loving everything you think, say, feel, and do because it just makes you feel really good.

Liking something, someone, or somewhere is never really everlasting and hence neither can you expect your motivation to last long either, but you do. You want it to last but it never does despite your continued, repeated and ever more intensive efforts eventually leading to frustration, disappointment and confusion. Finally you are confronted with the fact that you don’t know what motivates you. The answer you seek is to truly love something, someone, or somewhere. However this can only occur when you are devoid of hate and any other negative emotions.

First you must look for what you love in yourself and then love it, disregard any notion of negativity and just focus on just one thing regardless how insignificant it may seem, so when you next look at yourself you should immediately be focussed on this one thing that you love about yourself. This will motivate you every time you see or look at yourself, a constant reminder that you are loved. Being loved makes us feel special and gives us a reason to keep looking forward, wondering what’s next, excited and ready to embrace whatever comes our way.

If your motivation is true and you truly love what you are motivated about then it will last forever because it is constantly nourished and renewed. Being motivated cannot be because of what you will get out of something, instead it must be because of how it makes you feel about something. It’s the intrinsic feeling of emotion about someone, something or somewhere that creates everlasting motivation. Having the motivation to work hard to save money so you can go on that holiday or buy that car only lasts in intensity until you have gone on that holiday or bought that car, however it quickly evaporates shortly after.

Remember this, true motivation can only ever exist when you truly love what you are motivated about because it’s how it makes you feel that makes it everlasting, it cannot be physical, it’s the emotion.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick

Everyone’s been waiting with baited breath to see what’s going to happen in the partnership/relationship of Kourtney and Scott. It’s been a tumultuous ride that’s for sure and one which has been eyeballed by millions of people globally
as their personal life is been aired on live reality TV.

Take a look at the horoscope which includes Kourtney’s and Scott’s with an overlay of the current transits. We don’t have Scott’s birth time but we can overlay his planets to see exactly what’s happening between them. First note the transit of the North node, the karmic point to the seventh house of marriage and its opposite point, the South node in the first house of self. This two and a half you transit is a difficult one and brings to the forefront those karmic issues which need to be dealt with. We see that for Kourtney is a North node return with her North node also in this seventh house of Virgo at birth. It has yet to fully make contact as it is still transiting in the sign of Libra, also a sign of relationship and marriage.

In the previous year or two we can see that this transiting node passed over Scott’s natal Saturn and Pluto conjunction which is extraordinarily powerful and if not controlled can be very damaging. No doubt he has had to learn some pretty severe lessons during his time with Courtney. Those lessons continue now as the breakup takes place. One of the issue seems to be his drinking. As we don’t have his birth time we can safely use his lunar chart as a guide. Note the conjunction of the South node and Neptune in the second house. This has all the hallmarks of poison, liquids ie alcoholism.

We’ve seen the worst side of him on the TV show and drinking isn’t one of his better traits as I think we would all agree.
Some of the other notable transits include the transit of Uranus in the second house of Kourtney’s horoscope, Neptune transiting the rising sign in full opposition aspect to her marital house, soon to be touched by the South node, over the coming months, with this South node making its aspect on Mars, Mercury, Venus and ultimately the South node return. This next few months are going to be very difficult indeed for Kourtney as she tries to re-emerge from this emotionally exhausting relationship with Scott.

The transit of Saturn now at around 28° of Scorpio is edging closer to the Sagittarian Moon, Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in Scott’s chart. This is called a 7 ½ year period of Saturn and is one of the most difficult. This only happens once every 30 years or so. That it is a challenge for him emotionally is an understatement. During this cycle his fortunes will diminish as well-not just emotionally but on a commercial and business level as well. The period of 2018 to 2020 will be extremely difficult financially and Saturn will create a more intense situation in that respect.

Kourtney has a couple of years till she feels the full brunt of Saturn on her lunar position which is located at 10° of Capricorn. On that point, note the slow-moving transit of Pluto which is hovering around her lunar position. This creates intense and almost obsessive emotional issues and also shows that her friends are under the microscope now as well, not just her marriage. It’s fortunate to see Jupiter exalted in the fifth house of children with Venus now transiting this area as well. Hopefully the children will be able to remain unscathed during this very intense breakup.

An interesting and intense combination of planets including the Moon, Mars, the Sun, Venus and Jupiter, now transit her sixth house which has to do with work, enemies and health. All of these areas should be noted and she must take extra precautions that this intense Pluto conjunction of the Moon doesn’t undermine her health and well-being.

Marriages made in heaven can sometimes descend and dissolve in hell. One such marriage which some years ago was placed on the international celebrity pedestal was that of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, two of Hollywood’s most loved stars. Recently however their announcement to divorce has proved the fragility of the institution of marriage in that most racy, high-powered and ego centred city of Los Angeles.

The horoscopes of Jennifer and Ben along with current transits have been provided and we see immediately the outer planets making their impact on the couple. Most importantly the second house transit of Mars which has passed over the South node in Jennifer’s horoscope is a very telling sign of dispute and karmic fate. The second house is also speech and we see disputes taking place when Mars transits this sector of the horoscope. In Ben’s horoscope, Mars is now fast approaching his natal Mercury, also in the second house, which can present problems in communication. This would by no means be the only transit of Mars to this Mercury as obviously this breakup hasn’t happened overnight. We would see those previous squares, oppositions and other hard aspects of this planet building to this point. The conjunction for Ben will be harder than the trine aspect to Jennifer’s Mercury. Overall however the Mercury trine in both the horoscopes should give and ease of communication and hopefully a transition that isn’t too hostile especially when we consider that children are involved.

Ben will bounce back rather quickly as we see his Mars in Virgo will receive the Mars return sometime in the next few months. This will empower him again and give him a sense of purpose again. At this time however Jennifer will receive the hard aspect of Mars to her Gemini natal Mars which is in her 12^th house and I suspect that this may create a lot of frustration for her in the interim.

The conjunction of the Moon, Mars, Venus and Saturn is not an easy conjunction especially in her 12^th house and this can show a lot of past and suppressed issues that she needs to deal with although Gemini does make her more vocal than would otherwise be the case in this hidden-suppressed sector of the horoscope. As is also falls in the 12^th house of Ben he too would have had to make some serious concessions for Jennifer during their marriage. The Saturn and Venus conjunction is a very needy emotional one.

Note also the very tough Saturn return recently and also the transiting conjunction of Saturn to her Venus, then Mars, and now moving to the natal moon – all testimonies of a very difficult emotional period for her. In Vedic astrology this transit of the lunar position is known as the 7 ½ year cycle or Sade Sati so she still has approximately three or four years to endure.

For those of you who don’t feel Pluto has much of an impact on horoscope you should look closely at the retrograde transit of Pluto in Jennifer’s seventh house of marriage which has also received the opposition aspect of Mars recently-not all an easy one. Because Ben’s ascendant is the same as Jennifer’s, he will also be experiencing similar transit effects with Pluto also in his seventh house. This radically tears down and rebuilds relationships. It is indeed the planet of death and transformation.

There is a long-standing dictum in astrology that the North node shows where one is most blocked in this life and where desire is strongest but unfulfilled. In Jennifer’s horoscope the North node is in the eighth house indicating her lack of sexual fulfilment whereas in Ben’s horoscope it’s in the seventh house indicating his inability to feel fulfilled in one-on-one meaningful relationships. Such is the fate of even famous celebrities unfortunately.
